The storming stage concerns building trust, setting goals and developing buy-in or team commitment. In this stage healthy group conflict and debate often occurs and should be encouraged. Typically team members will struggle with tasks as well as the roles they will play. They need to build mutual respect, be forthright, and exhibit reliability. The team lead is responsible for establishing clear and integrated goals, open communication and promoting a shared vision. Otherwise the team will certainly fall into mistrust, apathy, skepticism, and resistance. Some teams get stuck in this stage and never move to the norming stage, which we will discuss next time.
